Plot
Retired Charles gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and goes undercover at a nursing home. Michael Schur was inspired to make “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary The Mole Agent. He says, “The Mole Agent documentary is powerful because it gives people an incredibly similar feeling, regardless of age, ethnicity or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way: “I need to call my mom.” In our show, we tried to do something similar with the tone: Does our show fundamentally contribute to the feeling of wanting to call moms? About 76 Ted Danson plays Charles, about 76, a retired engineering professor living in San Francisco.
It’s actually very clean and nicer
He is also the producer of this series, which stands out from the crowd by avoiding overly frequent foul-word dialogue. In the story, his wife died of Alzheimer’s disease perhaps a year ago. He is healthy, but perhaps his routine bores him. He has a habit of reading magazines and newspapers and often cuts out interesting copies to send to his married daughter in Sacramento.
Charles will be the key
One day, through the cut-out hole, he sees a small, short advertisement. I am looking for a person between the ages of 75 and 85 for a specific position. This leads him to a private detective hired by a man whose mother stole significant jewelry from the luxurious retirement home in San Francisco and whose son wants the thief caught. Therefore, he is hired to come to the scene, observe and report, as he is the person who will uncover what is going on.
My wife and I enjoyed streaming it
Ted Danson is perfect for this role, which he plays with a lot of humor. It quickly becomes less about who the thief was and more about the relationship. The characters are played by a stellar cast, many of whom are old favorites from the past 50 years. After watching the first three episodes in one evening, we watched the last five episodes in one go after our usual Saturday night steak and wine dinner.
One of the nicer ones we’ve ever seen
The ending is ready for a sequel, I hope it works out.
