While serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, a family man grapples with a serious moral dilemma that could sway the jury’s verdict and convict or acquit the wrongful murderer. I saw this film as the final film of the 2024 AFI Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre premiere. The lead role is played by Nicholas Hoult, who is forced into a moral dilemma when he is selected to serve on a jury for a murder. . The story of “12 Angry Men” I can’t say much about this without creating spoilers. Tony Collette stars as the prosecutor running for district attorney, and J.K. is Holt’s colleague on the jury. Hoult’s performance is adequate, along with the other star cast, including Simmons and Gabriel Basso as the defendants. and many others. The story and screenplay are peppered with a few surprises, although this is not the inevitable ending. Eastwood’s direction is usually solid, but not exceptional; however, given the limitations of the story, I would say it is better. So, in summary, this film is a 7/10, certainly not a 10/10, but not a 4/10 either (I reserve ratings of 4 and below for technically inadequate films).
