It follows a seemingly normal family with a dark secret: they are vampires. They choose not to drink blood despite their natural cravings, but their truth is revealed one day. Kelly Macdonald is strong as Helen Radley. Bo Bragason is also strong as Clara Radley. Damian Lewis and the rest of the cast are pretty lazy and really lack presence. The casting is a big mistake. The story is about a family of vampires who no longer drink human blood. The problem is that there is no story. It’s more like a few days in the life of a boring vampire family. We’re lurching from one scene to the next with nothing really happening. There are constant scenes where people just stare at each other or stare at the wall. Nothing happens and no emotion is communicated to us. People sit or stand, doing nothing for a few seconds. None of the characters, except Helen and Clara, have any personality. Possibly one of the worst characters I’ve seen in a long time is the pseudo-hippie-vampire-boss Will, also played by Damian Lewis. The character is not very well built and Lewis’ acting skills can’t do anything with the character. So we have mostly bad actors, a weak cast, a weak script and amateur cinematography and direction. Then we are told that it is not only a horror film, but also a comedy. I just finished watching it and honestly I don’t remember anything funny that happened during the entire show. It’s almost funny how bad the film is, maybe that’s what it means? Ultimately, the film makes no sense. It makes no sense. It’s nothing more than a documentary about some bored middle-class vampires living their daily routines in a boring way. It was very tiring to watch and when the end finally came and a long and pointless speech came to an end, I said: “Finally, thank God it’s over.” I give it a 2 and I think that’s being generous.
