Oticon Opn – Open Sound Solution
OPN's design completely rethinks the experience of listening with hearing aids. Traditional hearing aid technology fares well in complex situations by allowing you to focus on one speaker, while canceling out distracting noise. Though this provides wearers with access to certain sounds and speech signals, it tends to be a more narrow and artificial experience. With an open sound solution, OPN literally “opens” the scope of sound in your environment. Powered by Velox, OPN's precise processing captures the intricate sounds and speech within your environment, while rapidly reducing noise and providing you with multiple clear sounds at once – not unlike a natural listening experience with normal, binaural hearing. This allows you to focus on the sounds you want to hear, without sacrificing the spectrum of sounds within your environment.
OPN hearing aids scan your environment at 100 times per second and provides 360-degrees of accurate audio information – rather than just a narrow cone of clear sound. The Open Sound Solution has been found to reduce listening effort and helps wearers understand speech with a 30% improvement (based on independent studies). With hearing loss, the brain has to work harder to simultaneously sort through sounds in an environment, from speech to background noise. Over time, the hard work of listening tends to take a toll on the brain, tiring it out. OPN's open sound solution does this hard work for you, so that your brain has the energy to remember 20% more compared to previous models – improving wearer memory in any situation.
Opn Features
Available in a number of colors to match your skin and hair color, OPN is worn discreetly behind the ear, and has a durable coating that will withstand the different elements you move through in a day. OPN is also designed with convenient usability in mind, with a single push button to easily change between programs and to increase/decrease volume.
OpenSound Navigator
OpenSound Navigator is the driving force behind OPN's open sound solution. OpenSound determines each sound's characteristics, importance, position, level, and frequency. OpenSound Navigator treats each sound source individually, rather than treating other sounds as “background noise.” As a result, each individual sound is processed at an incredibly fast speed to provide the brain with a full, accurate picture of audio information on your environment. This helps you decide which sounds you want to focus on within your environment.
OpenSound Navigator balances out surrounding sounds, making background sounds audible and clear, but not distracting. This helps you sort through the sounds and focus your attention on what you want to hear. In terms of noise reduction, OpenSound Navigator ensures that background noise does not infringe upon the speech or sounds you want to hear.
SpatialSound LX
With hearing loss, the configuration differs person to person, and even ear-to-ear. SpatialSound LX is designed to balance the sounds from your environment by transmitting binaural data between your two ears to provide accurate spatial information. Not only does this provide a more natural listening experience, it also helps wearers locate themselves within their environment and improve spatial awareness.
YouMatic LX
The experience of hearing is a personal one, and YouMatic LX caters to wearers' personal preferences. YouMatic LX works in conjunction with all of OPN's features to control the levels and programs that you prefer, adjusting in different listening environments.
Speech Recognition Features: SpeechGuard LX and Soft Speech Booster LX
Speech recognition is the biggest challenge for people who experience hearing loss. For some, the frequencies of speakers' voices may pose difficulty, while for others, the direction from which speech comes may be challenging. SpeechGuard LX preserves speech sounds and enhances speech understanding in any environment, even complex ones. OPN offers the Soft Speech Booster LX feature to enhance quieter speech sounds to make them more accessible. Studies have found that Soft Speech Booster LX improves soft speech understanding by up to 20%.
Wind Noise Management and Feedback Shield LX
Wind Noise Management analyzes wind noise at 500 times per second in 16 frequency channels to protect your listening experience from the interference of wind. With amplification, there are instances where amplified sounds are picked up by your hearing aid's microphone and looped back. This creates the unpleasant experience of feedback. OPN's Feedback Shield LX utilizes dual microphones to eliminate feedback to provide a comfortable listening experience.
TwinLink and Wireless Connectivity
Oticon OPN is a wireless hearing aid that offers two connectivity options through TwinLink. OPN aids wirelessly stream data between both ears, to provide a more than 200% increase in binaural processing capacity. This provides wearers with an incredibly natural and clear listening experience (Spatial Sound LX)
OPN also connects to your smart devices to stream phone calls, videos, music, and other media directly to your ears. OPN offers a 2.4 GHz connectivity for streaming, and is compatible with Apple products.
Accessories and the Oticon On App
For extra amplification in everyday life, connect your OPN aids to your home entertainment systems through the TV Adapter. This allows you to stream audio from your television directly to your hearing aids (up to 45 feet). Oticon's remote control (the size of a car key) allows you to discreetly change settings on your aids. Oticon's ON app allows you to control your aid settings on your phone and check the battery level. If you happen to misplace your aids, ON's “find my hearing aid” feature helps you locate them.
